BR Open Wagon Pack Progress #1

Hello everyone, Joe here – I've been working on my next wagon pack: a wide set of BR-built open wagons! These can accompany the GAD BR Standard van pack well and can make some interesting and varied goods trains for the 1950s and 1960s. I will be making a short series of posts as I work through various features of the pack.

Included diagrams

The following diagrams of wagon will be included in this pack:

D1/002 Lowfit

D1/019 Medfit

D1/032 and D1/034 planked Highfits

D1/039 planked Hybars with corrugated ends

D1/041 steel Highfits

D1/044 planked Highfits with corrugated ends

D1/049 steel Hybars

D1/448 Tube wagons

D1/460 and D1/461 Pipe wagons

D1/503 and D1/505 LMS pattern 20t brakevans

Features

Along with carrying a wide range of loads (which will be detailed in a future post), these wagons will have the following features:

Three weathering levels

Each vehicle comes in ex-works, well-worn and heavily weathered states. The third level features grime that has been wiped clean or freshly repainted where lettering is sited.

Pre- and post- 1964 lettering styles

Each vehicle (apart from the unfitted versions of each wagon, most of which were converted to vacuum brakes before the later lettering style was used) has the option of choosing the later "boxed" style of lettering by adding ;LE=2 to the rail vehicle number.

Chalked destinations

Using the same versatile chalkboard system as on the BR standard van pack, there is the option to chalk a destination onto each wagon - just about every location in the country can be adequately described!

Sheet support rail on hybars

Both diagrams of hybar have the option to have the sheet support rail raised, stowed or removed entirely, by adding ;BP=1, 2 or 3 respectively.

Stoves, overhead wire warning flashes, side lamps and interior views (brakevans only)

As on the BR standard 20t brake in the van pack, there is the options to fit overhead wire warning flashes, light the stove in the guard's compartment, and carry side lamps for running behind unfitted or partially fitted trains.

They also come with a detailed interior and a range of passenger (or in this case guard's!) views, including a head-out view, which is new to this pack.

Watch this space for further updates! The next post will outline the various loads these wagons can carry.

Thank you for reading. Please remember all content here is work-in-progress.
